The Shabat ("Sabbath") is the holy day of rest and spiritual focus given by the Divine to the people of Israel (as reported in Exodus 20.8-11), to be kept on the seventh day of the week, which begins on Friday evening and ends on Saturday night. The Hebrew word "Shabat" has the connotation of "end of activity", "rest".
